My husband and I went to The Smoking Goat on a quick anniversary trip to San Diego. Upon arrival, the entire staff was immediately hospitable and prompt. The interior decor was warm and rustic, and a nice contrast to the brisk December air. We both decided to skip the appetizers in order to save room for dessert, which I’m so happy we did! I ordered the duck, and my husband ordered the steak frites. The food arrived quickly, as it was a Sunday evening. My duck was probably the best I’ve ever had, and the sauce was acidic enough to cut through the richness of the bird. It was very well executed, and served at the perfect temperature. My husband’s steak was decadently tender, and they definitely don’t skimp on the crispy fries. At the end of our meal, we shared the goat cheese cheesecake. It was rich and tangy, but fluffy in a way not typical to traditional cheesecake. A very intriguing approach to the dessert. All in all, the attention to detail, and quality of both service and gastronomy was top tier. Thank you for making our celebratory dinner both special and memorable!
We came here for my friend's Bday, her husband chose this lovely restaurant. I've heard this local famous French restaurant but finally got to check it out. I have to say the whole meal is delicious. We had 4 appetizers to share, my favorite is duck liver pate and octopus. I'm not a fan of octopus, but this one made me feel so yummy. Their complimentary baguette breads are very tasty as well. We each had our own entree, including 2 steak & fries, sliced duck, halibut and 2 pork chop. Mine is pork chop, it is very very delicious, I love it, well cooked and flavorful. The steak is good but my husband said he could make it better, of course to his taste. I think this restaurant is very nice for a celebration or a nice date. Here's service is very Frenchy style, which is a little bit more proud and serious.
I tried a new restaurant, and I loved the vibe, design, and the service. However, the food didn't wow me. The tartar was missing the egg, and the bread was too crusty for my liking. The pork chop was well-cooked, but my friend didn't like the sauce. He tried the dish for the third time, and he didn't find it as good as the previous occasions.
The best part was the Old Fashioned – the whiskey was amazing. 🥃🥃🫶🏻
It’s a foodies favorite time of year: San diego restaurant week! We wanted to try something new. Something with more dollar signs and a cuisine we would not normally get. The smoking goat did not disappoint
There were many options on the menu for restaurant week. Beet salad to escargot to a Brie cheese plate. And the proteins were all present. Steak, salmon, duck. Lots of great choices
Ended up choosing a beet salad, steak and fries, chocolate dessert and strawberry cheesecake. The beet salad had a nice balsamic vinaigrette and chunks of beet and pumpkin. Steak was cooked a perfect rare. The fries were truffle Parmesan fries and were tasty. Not too much truffle flavor. The duck is as so juicy and cooked perfect as well. I find that many restaurants don’t cook the food to perfection, which makes a huge difference in eating
The chocolate cake thou was so thick and rich. A little too rich for my personal taste but it was so good. Needed a glass of milk with it lol. The strawberry cake was a better option as it was lighter.
Ryan, our server, was very attentive and answered any questions we had. All in all, a great experience with excellent quality food. We def wanna go back and try their regular menu
Wow, definitely get those duckfat truffle fries...so delicious! We also had the baked brie with pistachio and cranberry which was very tasty. I had the Scottish salmon as an entree which was cooked to perfection. The service was excellent as well. A great spot for a date or girls night.
We went for Valentine’s Day and despite being a busy day the service was excelente and the food is delicious. The fries are the best one I have ever had.
I came here to celebrate a birthday and the experience was fabulous. I made a reservation on OpenTable and they seated us immediately. Our server, Scott, was very nice and gave us some great recommendations. For openers we had the Spanish octopus, the escargot and the pork belly (the pork belly is a new item on the menu and was the night’s special). The octopus was the favorite but every starter was delicious. For the mains, we had the macadamia nut encrusted halibut and the duck. Both were well balanced and delicious. I highly recommend this restaurant for a night to treat yourself!
Nice dinner. Our favorites were the escargot and duck fat truffle fries. My steak was decent and was enhanced by the mustard aioli that came with it. My wife's mushroom pasta was also good but we both thought some spice/seasoning could have taken it up a notch. The atmosphere was great and service was friendly.
